When I spent my childhood at the Blue Raj Mountains, which was an hour away from any major city on the East Coast, I did not fully appreciate the small cities of Virginia unless I was hidden in it. It took many years to understand the charm of a sleeping streets living outside the state, in which a community full of locally -owned shops lives, and resides anywhere. Almost a decade later, though, Virginia re -led me, and welcomed me a world of rolling hills, four separate seasons, and music, history and good old -fashioned food.
I may be associated with the mountain cities of Blue Ridge, but I have also traveled across the state to find corner corners of corners of corner corners of the corner of the corner of the corner of the corner of the corner of the corner of the corner of the corner of the corner of Washington, the DC, the coast, and the ideological neglected corners of the Pedmont and the Shenndah Valley. And in my experience as a travel author and a complete Virginian, I can definitely say that the Commonwealth is full of dozens of incredible small cities to add to your travel list. However, they are better than others.
So without further ado, there are the best small cities in Virginia – from a strange transit in the heart of the horses to the east coast to escape from far away.

Middleberg is a powerhouse floor in Virginia, yet a small. Known as “horse and hunting capital”, the town is full of history, culture and architecture that you cannot walk without snatching a picture or can run the past. The main route stands with Washington Street, stone buildings, brick sidewalks and businesses that look as if they can work in a Halmark movie. There is also some first rate housing in the Middleberg, which is why it is making an additional tampering over the weekend. Statley Red Fox in and Tourin, which is rooted in 1728, is significantly sitting in the middle of the city, and Salamandar Middleberg and Goodstone in and Restaurant are both a short distance away.

Lexanton can be technically classified as a city, but as you enter the historic city, which is listed in the national register of historical sites, it is difficult to describe this part of Virginia as something other than a beautiful small town. In addition to Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute (VMI), a roster of local businesses can visit you through antiques’ brick sidewalks. I am full of leaks shop, Main On Purvers, and Lexington Mercantile – Lexington Energy, charming and unique experiences. The lime kiln theater combines these three features, which offers an annual summer line -up of the annual performance of its legendary outdoor (an old lease and kiln)).

Dan’s Medo Blue Ridge is not more than just one stop on the Parkway. It is a small town that deserves a heavy food of identity. For those who start, this is the place where you will find a premiel, which is a repeated winner Travel + leisureA favorite resort between the world’s best awards and golfers, hiking, and travelers who are looking for an external experience. Dean’s Meadows has claimed a highly photo space in several charming places to get something, an old -fashioned candy factory, and some some something of food.
Bedford

Bedford’s town has been prominently developed since I called him home for the last time. When I was small, I didn’t even think would be an art gallery that would have a local work (Goose Creek Studio) mastered choice, which has a taste of Sandwich and other lunch staple (town kitchens and provisions), or a shopkeeper (developed this year) to open the hotel’s fevion). Although nothing has changed, Bedford’s Blue Ridge is incredibly close to the Parkway, the definition of history, or the ability to walk.
Before raising one of the three peaks that make the oatal peaks. Spend one afternoon to learn the history of World War II in the National De Day Memorial, then return to the city to take your footsteps around the “The Loop”, which provides a wonderful manner of natural views to the three -mile pedestrian sidewalks.
Cape Charles

There are two small cities on the east coast that I recommend – the first is Cape Charles. You can initially be attracted to this part of the state of the state of water and fresh seafood, but Cape Charles will immediately show its appeal to its appeal. Spend a day on Cape Charles Beach, look for freshwater wet areas and seawater in the Cape Charles Natural Area Prayer, and buy some in Patch Street Box, Gul Humomic Gourmet Market, and Chandni jewelry. Indeed, this would not be a real journey to the East Coast without Sadaf, so try not to go without having dinner in Shanti.

Another favorite of the east coast, Chinnotig is a small town where you can easily spend a week – if not easily and never bored. If you like to get out of water and fish, you will not find a better place to spend your time. If you prefer to read on the beach, walk a long sandy, or shell, this is the destination of your dream holiday. When you can also take your tour time at the end of July, when there is an annual pony panning. 2025 years for tradition. Locals and tourists have been brought to the area in the program as Virginia’s flock of Wild Pony has been shifted from Steg Island to Chinotag Island. This includes the famous pony swimming, where the animals swim around the Osteg Channel for six minutes.
Fluid
The creativity plays a clear role in the culture of many small cities in Virginia, and it is not more clear than the flid. The hill town is located above Blue Ridge Pluto, and it is the largest stop with Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail, also known as the crooked road. People come from far away to listen to the Blue Grass music at the Flight Country Store on a weekly Friday night or attend the Multi -Day Music Festival, Floyd Festival in July. Other reasons for plans for a flid visit include buffalo mountain zipper lines, which claim to be the tallest and longest zipline of Virginia, and a large amount of local cutting.
Obangden

You do not need to travel to the largest cities in Virginia to experience a diverse pure scene. One of the most impressive foods of food is a small town in the southwestern corner of the state. You would like to be hungry to Abangden, where food offers go beyond two pairs of local favorite. Inside the hotel located in the ancient building of Abangidin, the team served European inspirational entrances, all flogging with southern contact. Fill food on Jack’s 128 pacin’s Rolls of eggs or fried oyster tacos, fill in Tonkatosu Ramesta in Ramen, or fix your caffeine on a girl and Raven.

If you are doing road tripping along with I-81, schedule for some time to stay in the Vietnh, a small city, which has numerous claims of fame. It is not only one of the smallest churches in the United States, nor a water tower that is painted to resemble the rainbow striped air balloons, and a 100 -foot -long -visible tower that contains panoramic views (found in search of Big Walker), with a hot hundred years old, with a hot hundred years of hot. There are famous hot dogs together, and it’s the world’s most famous hot dog, and it’s with a famous hot dogs, and one of the hot, dragon

Some of the Virginia artifacts, Brewery, Rapes, Restaurants, Farmers’ markets and natural landscapes are hidden in small cities across the state. For example: Wood Stock, Virginia. This historic town of Shenanda Valley is ideal for a long weekend. In the spring, pok around the hollow artifacts, wine streams at the Wood Stock Bry House or beer wine, cutting for food at the Wood Stock Garden Cafe, and local production in the South Street Barn Market (open year on Saturday). More brave passengers should also make a point to find a nearby seven band state park or increase the Wood Stock Tower.
