The American Bar Association on Monday sued the Trump administration, and called for an order in which the White House would be banned that the ABA called a threat campaign against major law firms.
The case filed in the Federal Court in Washington, DC said that the administration violated the US Constitution in a series of executive orders targeting law firms about its past clients and lawyers.
“The ABA has never got more time to defend its members, our profession and the rule of law,” William Bay, the president of the group, said in a statement.
ABA, with about 150 150,000 payments, is the country’s largest volunteer association for lawyers.
The White House spokesman did not immediately comment.
Four legal firms have filed a separate case against the administration on the orders of President Donald Trump, which snatched his lawyers about security clearance and restricted their access to government officials and federal agreements.
Four different judges in Washington have supported firms and banned Trump’s orders temporarily or permanently. One of the firms that tried and wins the initial victory, Susan Goodfrey, representing the ABA in a Monday case.
Despite Trump’s judicial losses, nine legal firms have signed agreements with the president, and has promised nearly $ 1 billion free legal services on legal issues with mutual agreement with the White House to prevent similar executive orders.
The ABA has stated in its legalization that Trump’s actions have made it difficult to find law firms to represent it in legal action against the federal government, including a matter in which it tries to challenge the administration’s immigration policies.
The ABA said that Trump has “deliberately formulated a policy that is designed to intimidate and force law firms and lawyers to refrain from challenging the president or his administration in court.”
