
A new report states that the insurance rates of US homeowners have increased by 40.4 % in the last six years, the largest increase in the last two years.
The Landing Tree’s 2025 State of Home Insurance Report increased from 2019 to 2021, increased by 2 % in 2019, 2.1 percent in 2020 and 3 % in 2021. Then in 2022, 2022 increased by 11 % in 2023 and 11.4 % in 2024, with increased rates in 2022.
The average annual cost of domestic insurance throughout the United States is now 80 2,801. According to the report, homeowners are the most expensive states for insurance (Oklahoma (, 6,133), Nebraska (, 5,912) and Kansas (, 5,412).
The report states that Hawaii’s average rate is 2 632, followed by California (2 1,260) and Vermont ($ 1,339).
The largest rate increase between 2019 and 2024 was: Colorado (76.6 %), Nebraska (72.3 %) and Utah (70.6 %).
Colorado’s increase was partially due to the increase in the incidence of a billion dollars of natural disasters. The report states that there were 24 between 2019 and 2024. Nebraska experienced 25 natural catastrophe, and Utah has seen increasing disasters in forest -affected areas.
Other important results in the report:
- Montana and Nebraska saw the most jumps in domestic insurance rates in 2024, both at 22.1 %. Each of Minnesota and Washington saw an increase of 19.5 %.
- The smallest rate increase in 2024 included Florida (1.7 %), Texas (3.4 %) and New York (3.8 %).
- From 2019 to 2024, the smallest overall states were Vermont (12.2 %), Alaska (12.9 %) and Mine (17.9 %).
