The first thing you have felt after landing in the Basement Jazz Club Liberto in Paso Robels in Paso Robels is a nine -foot -grand piano to dominate a small stage. This is not an ordinary piano: it’s the 2012 Stanway & Sons Model D, which is just one of the handful of stanways that is considered to be the best in the world. A device that is very low, it will attract Jaz Great David Bonouette’s choice to this small wine city on the California coast, just for the opportunity to play some lyrics.
In 2021, the former music producer of the movies, and Catlin Smith, took the actually allocated for the liquor license, 000 350,000 (don’t worry, they still sell alcohol) and put it on the piano. Since the club’s opening, it has become a thing of the underground jazz icon – which is a small west coast – Grammy Award – winning jazz, classic, and blouse artists such as Bonoite, Emate Cohen, GQ, Taylor Agusti, and Gloria Cheng, who are like 50 people here.
Some people may question Jordan and Smith’s decision. But Jordan says “it was to invest better.” “It marks us as something special. We scored various Grammy award with 26 weeks every other week in 2024-2025.”
From Lasos to Luxury
Once the cattle city, before its rolling hills turned to the rocks in the 1970s, Paso – as locals say – continues to be culturally prepared. It began with the inauguration of Vina Robels Amphatter, which exhibited a large pop act just a decade ago. Bruce Monroe’s SensorioFiber Optic Light and a great art of music installation, landing in 2019 and growing with new installations and original music.
“People come for alcohol, but then they live and discover these other invisible gems,” says Matty McDonald, a manager of the Booker Wine Club, who worked with Jordan, who worked for club members to play Artist GKO to play in their wine caves. She says, “I want to compare the passo.” “Unless you know you don’t know.”
In fact, I was surprised how much changed in this sleepy city after the pandemic disease: more bohu -cheese motels, a newly open 151 -room Hilton Boutique Hotel is called AVA, and a range of new restaurants and bars. About 31,000 residents now have two Michellenchers Restaurant. Six Test kitchens in Restaurant and Tin City in Justin Wenry have become a fancy food destination with six test kitchens, a former industrial park craft, a mushroom form, and a mushroom form and pasta bar. In addition, Michelin star chef Charlie Palle Paso Robels has come to the city to build three new locations in Sister Property Pacolo, including the stackhouse opening next year. But it is Libeto that brings jazz.

The idea came when Jordan and his wife from Los Angeles moved back to Paso during the epidemic lockdown, and opened several times Amsterdam. With the injuries to Kovide, the desire for entertainment, Jordan moved his Grand Piano to a coffee shop to play jazz for his neighbors at the outer tables during the service of Capechinos and Cabinets.
Shortly afterwards, he started inviting friends like Jeff Babakk, a studio musician who plays in Jimmy Kamel’s band, to give a concert, and a separate Jazz club was born.
After signing the lease of Liberto at the Old Opera House (built in 1919), Jordan had previously purchased a rare piano used by Los Angeles Flaroonk. He called a sound engineer, received the tables with local restaurants and liquor boxes, and asked the musicians to play there.
Without a liquor license, the Liberto began only as a club of members. As interest increased, and Jordan added public tickets for shows on the weekend on its website. He has then launched a Conservative Master Classes to local students of world -class musicians. The purpose was never to make money. This is what Jordan’s two coffee shops and roasting company do, he says.
Instead, this is a passion project that allows Jordan and its neighbors to enjoy global music and musicians so that they can enjoy a beautiful device and a slow pace that is reminiscent of reminding them. Glamor girlsBefore going to the big cities, the ‘fantasy stars hollow.
When I visited Liberto in April, known as “Drive Time” and “Love”, such as “Following Love”, played some of his compositions, as well as some of Vince Gorldi’s songs. In a comfortable place, with its exposed brick walls and leather booths, Liberto had a sense of dinner club, in which you were washing music waves from a large stanway at a distance of a few yards.
The next morning, I spied on Benoite and his wife while having breakfast in Amsterdam and placed my late order with Jordan, who traded my dinner jacket for an apron.
“We take care of our artists and put them in an apartment on top of our restaurant,” said Jordan. “They will come down and say, ‘Wow, are you making my oven?’ But we did what we had to do for success.
Economic Development Manager Paul Silvan says, with full concert lineup on the tap next spring and more luxury hotels in alcohol visits and pipelines, it is only a matter of time to completely be on the radar of luxury passengers on Paso.
“We have definitely enhanced our game in the relief, art and culture of the creatures,” says Sloan, but we have still found that small town charming. “
