Many foldable phone makers have experimented with two designs: a book-like, fully folding experience and a separate clamshell design intended to emulate a flip phone. According to a new report, Apple may be getting ready to do something similar with its first two foldable phones.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman reports that sources say Apple is developing products for its foldable iPhone sequel. The first bendable iPhone is rumored to launch in September this year alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Other leaks suggest that Apple could then move its standard iPhone 18 to early 2027, coming out with a sequel to the iPhone 16E to replace the brand’s most affordable smartphone. Think of the new schedule as flagship phones later in the year, and cheaper devices early next year.
Gorman’s latest report says that Apple is developing a clamshell version for its foldable follow-up. They say it will likely be smaller than a book-like phone, but we don’t have any specific size details yet.
The report suggests that the device is in the early stages of development, and there is no guarantee that the phone will reach the market.

According to Gorman, Apple is aiming for a 5.5-inch external display on its first book-like foldable phone. The original Galaxy Z Fold from Samsung featured a 4.6-inch screen on the front, but its latest model has grown to 6.5 inches, so Apple’s version will feel smaller than the latest Galaxy Z Fold 7.
He also noted how previous information suggests that Apple is working on a larger replacement for the first foldable iPhone with an iPad-like design. If true, it’s likely to be a huge device, possibly set to compete with devices like the new Samsung Galaxy Trifold. This foldable is priced at ₹ 2,899 and went on sale last week.
