CarPlay users may soon be able to use their own chatbot instead of Siri. As Bloomberg According to reports, Apple is working to add support for CarPlay voice control apps from OpenAI, Entropic, Google and others. Previously, users who wanted to access third-party chatbots in the car would need to go through their iPhone, but soon they may be able to chat directly with Cloud, or Gemini in CarPlay.
However, Apple will reportedly “not let users replace the Siri button on CarPlay or WakeWord that invokes the service.” Therefore, users will need to manually open their preferred chatbot’s app. Developers will be able to set their apps to automatically launch Voice Mode whenever they’re opened, though, which could help streamline the experience.
According to Bloombergthe addition of third-party chatbots to CarPlay could happen “in the coming months,” but has yet to be officially announced. The update to the rumor follows Apple’s announcement last month that Google Gemini will power an updated version of Siri, which is due to arrive sometime this year.
