HP Tuners has unlocked the Engine Control Module (ECM) of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Despite General Motors’ attempt to curb tuning with new cybersecurity measures, the aftermarket company has rolled out an upgrade for the model that could deliver nearly 1,200 horsepower to the rear wheels.
A stock ZR1 twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine makes 1,064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque. The ECU upgrade, which costs $1,499, produces 1,180 hp and 1,094 lb-ft of torque while maintaining the car’s original factory thermal and component limits.
Matt Sanford of HP Tuners posted on Facebook that big power gains are possible if you ignore the stock safety parameters. The ZR1 can get up to 25 percent more power with race fuel, he said.
He also highlighted the challenges of tuning the Bosch-supplied ECM, which he wrote is “not like tuning any other GM product.” You can check out his full post explaining the technical features of the tune below.
Motor1’s Tech: The C8 Corvette debuted with new cybersecurity measures to prevent tuning, but aftermarket shops quickly stepped in to try to stop them, and they’ve been successful.
