According to Gallup, employee engagement in the United States is at its lowest rate since 2020 — 31%. This is after decades of development.
Sometimes it’s the actual work that makes people hate their jobs, Doug Sabella, CEO of software company Payroll Integrations, said in an email interview. But often, it’s about not being felt, seen, heard and supported.
That doesn’t mean activists want music-dance experiences (chanting for “segregation”), Waffle Wednesdays and free gym memberships. Those are great, he said, but most workers want more.
“Most importantly, companies demonstrate a real investment in employee well-being, with benefits and programs that understand their needs.”
Since you can set all the limits you want, look for projects that keep you motivated and communicate openly with your manager.
“But these efforts are only as effective as the space employers create to support them,” he said.
