The US Department of Justice said Monday that the Walgreen agreed to pay Million 300 million to fix US prosecutors’ allegations that it had illegally filled millions of false copies of opioids and other controlled materials.
In addition to this amount, 4 % of interest annually will be paid in six years under the terms of the contract. The Department of Justice said that if the company is sales, integrated or transferred before the financial year 2032, Volugrens will have an additional $ 50 million to the United States.
“We strictly disagree with the government’s legal view and do not accept any responsibility,” Walgreen spokesman Fraser Angrman said in a statement. “Our pharmacists are healthcare professionals who care deeply about the safety of patients and continue to play an important role in providing education and resources to help deal with opium misuse and abuse in our country.”
The company said in filing with US regulators that it did not expect any major issues compared to OPIs in the future.
The government’s January litigation alleged that the Walgreens ignored the “red flags” that prescriptions were illegal and filled out anyway, which violated the controlled substance act. The government has also alleged that it has violated the false claims Act when it has since sought compensation from federal health care programs for prescriptions.
Walgreen is among the drug manufacturers, distributors, pharmacy operators and others who have in recent years agreed to pay about $ 50 billion for legalism and investigation through states and local governments, accusing them of helping the United States.
In 2022, Valgrens agreed to pay up to $ 5.52 billion in 15 years to resolve the thousands of legalism by state and local governments.
