A health official from Colin County confirmed that a middle schooller in the Dallas Fort Worth area had positively tested for measles, the first famous case in the urban area, a health official from Colin County, confirmed.
The young man is located 30 miles north of Dallas in Lucas. Health official said the student is studying at the Willow Springs Middle School in the Lujoi Independent School District. 96 % of students of the seventh grade were vaccinated for measles in the academic year of 2023-2024, the district said.
Texas, which is the center of the American measles outbreak, has seen most patients in the rural Guinness County in the western part of the state. Until Tuesday, Texas has 624 certified cases, of which 386 are guins. Two children in the state have died of the disease.
US centers have reported 800 cases nationwide in 24 states for the control and prevention of diseases.
The health official said that the child’s vaccination status and whether the infection is linked to Western Texas cases. Colin County Healthcare Services is working with the school to inform people about the potential exhibition.
Measles is a very infectious disease. According to the CDC, the best way to prevent infection is measles, mamps and rubella vaccine, which is 97 % efficient after two doses, according to CDC.
