At some point in my second night in Norway, I stop checking my watch. Not out of sluggish or rebellious, but just because it has taken importance.
At 11 am, I am standing on Rhine Berjan, one of Norway’s most famous peaks, looking across the fajor below. The golden light spreads across the water, pouring long shadows, and holding the wings of the flowers below. At that moment, I feel something rare: a quiet, wide joy I didn’t find anywhere else I traveled. This is my first competition FRILUFTSLIV.
Norway’s open air life

fril themselves.Loose means “open air life”. It is a concept of Norway whose roots seek meaning and happiness in being out. The first was developed in 1859 by the playwright Henrik Abson, it is contagious: 77 % of Norwegian residents go out at least once a week, and a quarter do this daily. Perhaps this is one of the reasons that Norwegian people are the most joyful people in the world.
Offer a better setting to find some locations FRILUFTSLIV Compared to the Lofuton Islands. In the north of the Arctic Circle, the seven major islands extend to more than 100 miles of wild, ancient landscape. Mountains rise suddenly and everywhere, absolutely reflecting in fozords and inlets below, as if the copy of this Sports games Interviews they frame every village and road unwanted. The beach, though, is surprising.
Hocland is a great example and has regular admission to the best beaches in Europe: Sugar White Sand, royal blue water is so clean that it looks tropical-as long as you sink your fingers and feel that you are 68 degrees north-and only the waves and the wind.
The walker of a dog passes us with a pleasant wave. “Welcome to the Caribbean,” he says with a smile, when we stand open on the sweep of white sand and turquoise surf. His dog does not pause. Clearly, this line has been heard before.
When the sun refuses to go
For early people, hugs is the easiest FRILUFTSLIV Between the mid -May and the mid -July, on the Lofutin, when the sun never sets on, but on the horizon, as the guest is reluctant to leave the party. Locals take the most of this-the caramers get out of the water before the dissolution and share the office gossip on the aftermath of peers. Even the Norwegian royal family is often seen on Lofutin’s hiking routes. A local guide tells us, “We were slightly nervous to leaving them behind.” I mean, is there a need to reduce any need in a half way above a mountain? ”
In such a high company, our challenge becomes fully embraced method FRILUFTSLIV Our five days on Lofuton. The simple answer is to take advantage of the freedom of the world through the watches and come out in all hours of the day. We start hiking our day, our local hill. 10 hours later, we went out to climb Lofuton’s most famous trail, Rhine Berjan. The 1,972 stone measures installed by Sherpas to counter the harvest are brutal, but most literally the sight of the summit is about to collapse.
Both additions show relatively short (one to 1.5 hours) climbing, steep drops, and complete panoramas in the final stages. The sun decreases on the horizon, gently illuminates remote remote ridge lines, while sheer rocks expose the villages below: churches, football pitches and ports, meet with all. fjord-level adventures

Passengers are catching an unlimited capacity of 24 -hour daylight and the tour providers are rapidly shielding. Lofuton is the first tour company that offers midnight sun caking on the islands. Due to the stormy weather, our booking has been resettled in the middle of the afternoon, but in the timely manner, it hardly makes a difference.
Belgium check couple, run by Henlore and John, this tour is rich in water -related history, from edible marine riders to stones (surprisingly palaki) from the social classification of home colors. Renowned red Raurbir (fishermen’s cabins) once saw in Lofutin that thousands of fishermen were once kept here who came here every winter during the Cod. The deep red color of the cabins is on the oxide of iron and the blood of fish.
The wealthy residents marked their homes with expensive whites or yellow, a tradition that has been going on for the past century. When interlippers deviate from these colors, it makes newspapers.
To Henlor, FRILUFTSLIV That means freedom to stay out every day – on foot, on the water, wherever light goes. They run family additions, camping trips and kicking tours, and say that changes in people are almost always the same. “Once they stop checking their watches, they start smiling more,” they tell me. “It is as if their hearts have slowed.”
John shook his head, and added, “Even children eventually stop asking what time is it. Parents usually thank us for it.”
After multiple activities and nursing swelling calves, we decide to be involved FRILUFTSLIV In a less active way. We joins a rib safari from the solver Harbor in search of sea eagles, running across the mirror fouser in a black inflammatory boat that feels more spy novel than watching. Eagles, with a wing period approaching eight feet, can see the fish at a height and the TA, to take its meal, spread the tallon. They wander around the mountains, reckless and precisely, gives everyone a sense of importance.
Midnight on the mountain

In our last evening, we show another overnight, selected more than 1,200 feet color, which claims to be the most beautiful golf course in the world. The steady trail is empty and, on the top, we stand alone. It comes midnight and comes with no dhoom-no darkness, no noise, soft trash of shoes on the stone, slow flow of flowers, and maybe a strange eagle in flying edge.
On another trip, then I would have found me on the subway platform or nursed the beer at the dim bar. But here, say between the sea and the sky, I have stumbled into a rare kind of freedom – it doesn’t care about what time it is or where you should be.
There and reaching around

Reaching Lofuton is the easiest by the sea. Appeal town is the easiest land base (1.5 -hour flight from Oslo).
Wind: The Veddy Body operates eight daily flights from Solore to Solore (the largest city of Lofutin), and a small Central City but a similar number. Flights also run once daily from Oslo and Terms to Solore. All routes take 30 minutes.
S: At the southern end of the island, the car ferry operates four times a day between bodies and masks. Book in advance or arrive at least two hours before departure for a walkup fare. When you get closer to the Lofutin, sights are no less surprising. On Monday, only the ferry also goes to the bodies daily to solver (about 3.5 3.5 hours).
Car: The best way to discover a private car is so far. Although rent is available in Solore and Solore, it is usually cheaper to hire Boda and bring the car to the ferry.
Just: Public buses run Rice Nordland. Download the app and watch the timetable. Just don’t expect them to follow the sun midnight.
Where to stay?
Swolore has a wide range of accommodation on Lofuton. The Scandinian Soluver offers a simple room at the port, which includes wandering and breakfast. The Thouan Hotel has a high definition of its water -sized restaurant and floating gold.
Residence is cheap outside Solver. We lived in this delightful Airbon B in the middle of the island but near the island. It was calm and comfortable, and an hourly drive of all the sunshine activities.
Modern Rourbir has become a famous self -catering residence. Fijord side Lofuton Roro Lodge, but 10 minutes from the distance, is a great choice for large groups, with eight passengers.
