Last year’s wild GT XX Concept gave us our first taste of Mercedes’ first electric vehicle, developed by AMG from day one. Before you bring out the pitchforks, we haven’t forgotten that the performance subsidiary has had EVs in the past, most notably the SLS AMG Electric Drive. Affalterbach also has the latest EQ-badged cars, but all were originally Mercedes models before getting the AMG treatment.
Less than a year after the concept, Mercedes-AMG takes us inside the production model. The second-generation GT 4-Door Coupe retains its complex name but adopts a completely different interior. In keeping with recent models with the iconic three-pointed star, the electric super sedan features an all-screen dashboard.
Echoing the face of the new CLA and S-Class, the display has thicker bezels rather than the continuous screen found in the electric GLC. We honestly can’t make up our minds about which setup we prefer, but we’re already missing the traditional dashboard layout of the car’s gas-fueled predecessor.

The triple-screen layout behind the glass panel includes a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster with a pair of 14-inch screens. The infotainment display is tilted slightly towards the driver to mimic the cockpit environment, while the same-sized screen on its right side entertains the front passenger with multimedia content.
With Mercedes-AMG integrating the climate control into the center display, the new high-performance EV has far fewer traditional buttons and switches than the V8 car. On the bright side, there are three rotary knobs on the center console to change electric motor response, nine-stage traction control, and cornering behavior. Like the infotainment and central air vents, the switches are also angled towards the driver.

Elsewhere, it’s business as usual, including touch-sensitive keys on the steering wheel. Mercedes has also installed an additional screen behind the center console so the two rear passengers can adjust the climate settings. Although it’s built on a dedicated electric car platform, the new GT 4-Door Coupe features a large hump in the floor that robs rear passengers of legroom.
Although the interior images show a four-seat layout, there will also be a five-seat configuration option. In both cases, the back straps fold down when you need to carry heavy items. Practicality should be more than decent given the car’s size and the five-door liftback shape carried over from the first generation.
As if the AMG crest that adorns the front headrests wasn’t obvious enough, the famous logo is also supersized on the glass sunroof. The apple tree by the river, symbolizing AMG’s location in Affalterbach, lights up along with the cams, valves and valve springs, even though the car doesn’t have a combustion engine. This one-piece glass surface extends to the rear and has dimming sections, allowing occupants to choose how much light enters the cabin.

We’ll have to wait a little longer to see the production-ready exterior, but last year’s concept wasn’t far off from the final product. As for the technical specifications, the GT XX rocked a triple motor setup with a combined 1,341 horsepower, enabling a top speed of over 224 mph (360 km/h). The concept was also a charging monster, capable of supporting more than 850 kW to put enough juice in the battery for 249 miles (400 km) after just five minutes.
Mercedes-AMG is also developing an SUV with the hardware of the GT 4-Door Coupe for those who prefer more comfort than sitting so close to the road. With the five-door liftback hitting the market before the end of 2026, expect to see its brake covers sometime next year.

Motor1’s Tech: Demand for high-end EVs isn’t where luxury brands would like it to be, but Mercedes-AMG insists there’s a big enough market to make the GT 4-Door Coupe a relevant product. This is doubling down with an SUV, but it remains to be seen whether affluent customers will be convinced by the new models.
If you’re not sold on sporty EVs, the good news is that their upcoming arrival won’t come at the expense of gas-powered models. Mercedes-AMG is working on a new V8 for future performance ICE vehicles and possibly some hot plug-in hybrids. Meanwhile, it’s giving the AMG C-Class a six-cylinder engine, so it’s far from the leader in EVs.
