Apple TV now supports Google Cast on Android phones. This feature lets users cast shows and movies from their phone to a TV or a streaming device, provided both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Apple TV launched on Android earlier this year, and the new feature is ready with the latest app update (version 2.2). As 9to5 Google reports, the cast icon appears at the top right of the video. Once casting starts, you can access playback controls as well as audio and subtitle settings right from the mobile app.
Casting is often used by people who travel or don’t want to use the TV’s built-in app. Although Apple TV’s iOS app supports AirPlay, it still doesn’t support Google Cast.
The move comes just days after Netflix rolled out support for Casting on both Android and iOS. Casting from the mobile app is still possible, but only on select TVs and streaming devices. Meanwhile, the streamer is grabbing headlines for trying to acquire Warner Bros., HBO, and HBO Max.
Apple TV is also not far from this news. It increased its subscription cost from $9.99 to $12.99 per month. Additionally, the streamer changed its name from Apple TV+ to Apple TV and developed a new, more colorful logo.
