The two sides confirmed on Friday that the Australian regulator had filed a lawsuit against Opes in violation of the privacy laws during a cyber attack of 2022.
Opts, which is one of the largest overseas investment in Singtl, said in a statement that the Australian Information Commissioner (AIC) has accused the telecom operator of violating the Privacy Act 1988.
The Privacy Act goes on how personal information is handled by government agencies and private agencies.
The Australian Operations said the operation was filed against Singtal Operations Petty Limited and Opeat System Petty Limited.
AIC is accused of a violation of the law for each of the 9.5 million users affected by data violations, in which the court is likely to impose a fine of up to $ 2.2 million. However, the Privacy Watch Dog did not provide details about the total amount.
Optts said he was reviewing these claims but did not assess the potential financial effects.
Violation of September 2022, the worst of Australian history, exposed sensitive customer data, including domestic addresses, passport details and phone number.
About 10 million Australian, or 40 % of the population was affected, many of the days were unable to access mobile, broadband and landline services.
As a result of the incident, Prime Minister Anthony Albaniz called for strict privacy laws, including reports of rapid violations to banks.
Opts have faced public criticism, which has increased in 2023 due to the closure of the countrywide network. The twin crisis resulted in the resignation of the then CEO Kelly Baire Rosmine in November 2023.
The company was taken to court in May 2024 in May 2024 during a cyber attack.
