If you blink, you might miss this luxe hotel nestled in the lush greenery of Singapore.
And that’s exactly the effect Banyan Tree hopes to have with its new biophilic design property, which opened its doors just last week. Mandai Rainway, marking 100Th Local to hotels, the city is nestled amidst trees in the state’s Mandai Wildlife Reserve.
Within its 11.4-acre setting, the new hotel resembles a treehouse, with elevated accommodations that rise from the surrounding vegetation and reach the top of the canopy. This means you’ll get some pretty amazing views of the area’s upper Slater reservoirs. Meanwhile, the circular design is an ode to the seed pods of the purple Militia, a tree that blooms stunning purple flowers. And, in a common theme you’ll find at Mandai Rainforest Resort, everything leads to the environment: the sky-high design allows the plants below to grow without restriction, preserving the surrounding nature, and many mature trees were carefully preserved during the construction of the site.

This idea continues through the property’s residences (filled with an array of greens and neutral browns), courtesy of artwork by Singaporean artist Donna Ong. His creations bring the jungle to life in the rooms, which range from king rooms to luxurious suites for families, inspired by the forest floor, canopy and other layers of greenery, as well as depictions of native animals such as the white-collared kingfisher, Sumatran flying dragon, and gray-headed fish eagle. Star Rooms, though, are the treehouse pods, which act as your own private sanctuary at the resort. With these, you get your own patio to take in the peaceful surroundings as well as access to the private pool.
For your meal, Chara, a restaurant where ingredients are sourced from the property’s own garden – which you can feel free to check out yourself, if you want to indulge in some herbs. The dining destination also draws inspiration from the rainforest in its cuisine, with some wildlife serving as your entertainment. The nearby observation deck is a prime perch for birdwatching with the chance to spot more than 30 species. And for a bit of wellness, the property’s spa offers a range of treatments inspired by traditional Asian techniques, including body conditioners, massages and more.
“For more than a decade, we’ve been transforming Mandai Wildlife Reserve into a world-renowned wildlife and nature destination, where our parks offer windows into the wild and public spaces, creating new ways to enjoy the outdoors. Our 126-hectare precinct is a key part of the CEO’s plan, with a wide range of experiences beyond the large-scale wildlife encounters at the CEO’s mittket.” “Mandai Rainforest Resort by Bunyan Tree is a significant addition that allows guests to stay longer, explore at their own pace, and fully enjoy everything it has to offer. More than a place to stay, it’s an immersion in nature and a rare opportunity to connect with it in a city-state.”
The Mandai Rain Path through Banyan Tree also serves as a launch point, with night safaris, river adventures to meet giant pandas, and more on the menu of experiences. Happy adventuring
