German hypercar maker Caperkorn, which unveiled its new 01 Zagato just a few months ago, has now shown a pair of operational prototypes in Paris at the Salone Retromobile. The cars appeared in bright yellow and were shown ahead of deliveries which are said to have started later this year.
The Makar 01 Zagato was built in collaboration with Zagato, the Italian coachbuilder. The car is priced at $3.5 million, and only 19 examples will be made. McCarran says it is the world’s first hypercar designed by Zagato.
The car is powered by a V-8 engine that makes 900 metric horsepower and possibly close to 1,000 mechanical horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels, the transmission is a five-speed manual, and the engine is supercharged, meaning the 01 Zagato should be a driver’s delight.
The cars are handcrafted in Germany and, beyond strength, are designed to be lightweight, with carbon fiber everywhere, including the structure and body. Makarkorn says the 01 Zagato will weigh less than 1,200 kilograms, or 2,645 pounds, making it exceptionally light. The McLaren is targeting a zero-to-60 time of less than 3.0 seconds.

The car was first seen last October before making its debut in person in Belgium at the Zout Grand Prix. According to the DuPont registry, the prototypes shown in Paris are test cars, used for speed and calibration tests. A third car is also in the works for testing, none of which will be part of the 19-only 01 Zagatos Limited run.
Makarkorn is only making many 01 Zagatos as a tribute to this day, which was founded on April 19, 1919. Users will start receiving the first 01 Zagatos later this year.
“The Makar 01 Zagato represents the execution of everything learned over decades of ultra-lightweight materials, technologies and construction techniques.”
“Each Makar 01 prototype allows us to deepen the relationship between design, engineering and the driver and validate our decisions in real-world conditions before production begins later this year,” Wilde added in Paris.
