According to O Globo, on Friday, hackers broke Sun Kiya, a financial technology provider owned by Everett, who tried to steal about 420 million Reees ($ 77.4 million) from several Brazilian financial institutions, which included HSBC Holdings PLC’s local operations.
Cyber criminals attacked the Sun Qia system used by Brazilian financial institutions and tried to transfer several transfers through a rapidly growing electronic payment system. Sun Kiya confirmed the attack but said there was no evidence of suspicious activity in any system other than PIX.
He said in a statement on Saturday that Sun Qia is working to rebuild the affected systems with affected controls and that a review pending from the central bank will return only the peaks online.
O Globo said the hackers tried to divert about 380 million Reyes from the HSBC, the Central Bank of Brazil added that the attack managed to prevent 350 million Reyes. He did not say what happened to the rest.
The HSBC confirmed the incident in a statement, saying that “the operation did not affect any customer accounts or funds and no steps were taken to stop these transactions.”
This is not the first time that Brazilian financial institutions have faced such a violation. In July, hackers attacked C&M software, surrounded hundreds of millions of Reees.
