Danone is recalling batches of infant formula in Austria, Germany and France, extending an industry recall due to contamination with the toxin cerelide, the company and Austria’s state food agency said.
Ceruloid, which can cause nausea and vomiting, has been found in a supplier’s ingredients in China for a number of baby formula makers, including Nestlé, Danone and Lactose.
The findings have triggered recalls in dozens of countries and raised concerns among parents.
In France, Danone said in a statement that it was recalling some batches of its Galea and Bladena brands following stricter limits on cerealide introduced by the European Union’s food safety agency.
The company is also recalling production batches of Aptamel and Millemel infant formula in Austria and Germany, the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety said on Thursday.
A French government website listing product recalls related to dozens of batches of Danone recalls.
French investigators are also looking into whether there is a link between the deaths of two infants under Swiss group Nestlé’s Gygoz brand and the recalled infant formula. The results are expected in the coming days.
