Discovery’s bonus category for the third quarter of 2025 is the same for summer passengers and domestic body. From July 1 to September 30, 2025, such as qualified cards Discover this ® Cashback Or Discover this – Students Cash Back Common quarter costs can get 5 % cash back to gas stations on public transit and utility payments, then 1 % return to everything.
Note that you have to activate to start earning 5 % back, and when you activate them, you will start earning bonus prizes. You can activate this quarter’s bonus category by calling your discovery account online, through the Discovery app or the number on the back of your card.

Specifically, this is the first time that Discovery offers “utility” as a bonus category. Eligible purchases include Internet, water, electricity, cable, phone service, satellite TV and more. Remember that the purchase made by retail stores is not eligible. Similarly, the purchase made by third -party management companies or landowners may not be able to earn a bonus cashback, nor can individual streaming services be purchased.
The “gas station” category, which includes electric vehicle charging this quarter, has been the annual bonus category for the past decade. Eligible purchases include spending on pumps or EV charging stations, and spending inside gas station stores. However, note that gas stations associated with wholesale clubs, such as Costco, or a supermarket, may not be eligible for bonus cashbacks.
The “Public Transit” discovery is a less common bonus category, though it was presented in the second quarter of 2024. The category includes local passenger bus, rail and ferry services, but it does not exclude taxi and ride share services.
