Wyles says he called Kasturi on the carpet. “You can’t just lock people out of their offices,” he recalls telling her. Soon he was fielding calls from aid agency heads and former government officials with a grim message: thousands of lives hung in the balance.
Wiles added: “So Marco is going to Panama. We call him and say, ‘You’re being confirmed by the Senate. You’re basically going to be the custodian of (USAID).’ ‘Okay,’ he says. ” But Musk is moving on – all throttle, no brakes. “Elon’s attitude is that you have to do it fast. If you’re an incremental choice, you’re not going to get your rocket to the moon,” Wiles said. “And so with that attitude, you’re going to break some chains. But no rational person could think that USAID’s actions were good. No one.”
