- Audi’s entire lineup will get a new grille design inspired by the C concept.
- The new grille stands out with its vertical styling.
- Audi will adapt the grille to fit different vehicle parts.
The Audi Concept C introduces a new design language for the automaker with one key signature feature: a narrow vertical grille. This is a new styling element that will soon be featured on every Audi model.
Massimo Frasla said Auto Motor & Sport (subscription required) in an interview that will span across the Girl lineup. However, Audi says it will tweak the styling to best fit each model. He told the publication:
‘We have developed the individual elements in such a way that they can be used flexibly, so that the A-segment models are significantly different from sports cars or SUVs – but connected by a common thread.’
It’s unclear if Frasella plans to adapt the grille design for different vehicle segments, but he said “every car needs its own character.” This “character” will be developed through the “proportions of the car, special lines, face and eyes”.
In September, in an interview with our Italian Motor 1 Colleagues Frascilla told us that the move to vertical elements gave Audi a “differential advantage” as others design wider horizontal grilles. Frasella and his team also concluded that Audi’s design was more recognizable when relying on vertical elements.

Take Motor 1: Love it or hate it, Audi’s new grille will soon appear on other models as the automaker introduces a new design language. It’s definitely different and stands out from other luxury brands, but it can be so polarizing that it alienates buyers. Only time will tell.
