The Friday the 13th Collection Deluxe Edition is a 1080p Blu-ray box set that compiles every film in the popular horror franchise. The classic eight-film story arc—from the 1980s to the original in 1989—Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan.
Unlike many big box sets, each film has its own traditional Blu-ray case with reversible cover art. There are 13 cases in total, since the two bonus material discs have their own case. The films and a 40-page booklet featuring essays and production photography are packaged inside the durable slip shown above. The slipcase features exclusive artwork from Dion Whitehead all around.
The first four films in the collection are based on Shoot Factory’s new (at the time) 4K restoration. Shoot Factory also restored the mono/stereo audio tracks for the first seven films in the series. The original film has two discs, one with restored audio, the other with original sound. Jason goes to Hell and Jason X gets a new 2K scan based on Interposits.
If you’re a huge fan of the series, the wealth of special features is worth the price of admission alone. Along with all the archive content from previous Blu-ray and DVD releases, this set comes with a new audio commentary featuring the cast and crew. It also features new audio commentaries led by other filmmakers who were inspired by the franchise. You’ll also find new behind-the-scenes features, making-of documentaries and interviews.
