Gallagher taps Hughes from EY as tax expert in private equity and M&A practice

Gallagher Announced the UK appointment of a specialist corporate M&A tax advisor Tom Hughes His EMEA-wide private equity and M&A (PEMA) practice as Director of Tax Insurance.

Hughes will join Gallagher in the UK on January 5, 2026, and will hire recent tax professionals across Europe as Gallagher deepens its investment in specialist risk expertise to further expand its range of client-focused solutions for businesses engaged in acquisitions, mergers and other transactional corporate activities.

Hughes joins from EY where he spent the last five years as part of its corporate M&A tax team, most recently as a senior manager in the international tax and transaction services team specializing in M&A.

A Chartered Accountant by profession and specialist tax advisor for the past 10 years, will report to Hughes Giles HamleyHead of Tax Insurance in the UK. He brings a comprehensive understanding of the closing deal process related to private due diligence, acquisitions and disposals, and tax structuring, with extensive experience in providing tax advisory services to private equity-backed portfolios, mid-market and high-growth groups, and multinational corporates.

Over the past year, Gallagher said he has hired across Europe to build a team capable of supporting M&A activities, people working in the private equity sector, and people executing a wide range of corporate transactions and activities.

In addition to several hires in the warranty and indemnity class, in September of this year Gallagher announced the appointment of a tax specialist Cristina Montserrat Chaparo Vaguero As a senior broker, and Pau Lopez Fornones As an Associate Broker, supporting Iberia clients. before that, Joyce Koch And Vera Dembsky M&A was appointed as tax insurance broking specialists, supporting Benelux and German clients, all with extensive experience in the “Big Four” firms.
