Birth is heading to Lee Men’s, and it is coming there with a large OL ‘V-8. The Hyundi Luxury brand predicted his racing intentions in December 2024 with the announcement of GMR -001, the team’s first car, GMR -001. It will compete in the FIA World Endowner Championship next year, followed by the IMSA in 2027.
Now, the birth of the GMR-001 Hypertension is sharing some information on the heart, which recently fired for the first time.
The engine is a twin turbo charged V-8 that is manufactured at home by Hyundai Motorport, the same company responsible for the high-string 1.6-liter Turbo Four used by Hyundai at the World Rally Championship by Hyundi. In fact, the main architecture of the V-8 is based on the same engine. Hyundi claims that the new V-8 shares with a powerful four-cylinder in about 60 % of its parts.

“Inline four engines are a very, very sophisticated, highly efficient engine,” says Francis-Zavir Demisen, the technical director of Hyundai Motorport. “This is a suitable race engine, so it’s a great base for developing the engine for the WEC. Railing is a kind of endurance race, so Lee Men’s for up to 24 hours of engine, it is a good place to start.”
The development on V-8 was actually started in June 2024, so it is not constructed at night. The design was finalized in October, and the first engine was finally gathered earlier this year.
“The first engine assembly always takes a little longer, because we pay extra attention to the details, because we do not know the engine,” said Mansett. “We had to learn and make the documents together. It took about three or four weeks, but we first completed the fireup according to the schedule.”
Engine details are still under wrap, but LMDH regulations demand more and more joint output 630 horsepower, including the hybrid part of the power train. Given the commonalities between the V-8 and 1.6-later WRC engine, the basic mathematics suggests that it may be displaced at about 3.2 liters, though it is certainly possible to hit up to 4.0 liters.
In any case, Genius Magma is still deep in the racing test. The engine is not yet in the car – before being connected to the gear box and the hybrid unit, there will be a bench test that operates all LMDH cars. On this occasion, there will be further examination, including endurance diagnosis and long cycle runs before the car is finished.
If everything is in line with the plan, the GMR-001 will be examining on the track later this year.
