Update 7/2: Google Pixel is informing 6A owners that the compulsory software update to Android 16 will begin on July 8, 2025, “which will enable the key features of battery management.”
Google has confirmed that the update “will reduce your device’s battery capacity and charging efficiency to reduce the risk of heat more than the potential battery.” However, you may not feel anything right now.
“Some users will see quick changes compared to others, as the battery management features are justified only after reaching 400 charge cycles,” says Google. Google will send new features of new features of Google Battery management when your device is on 375 and 400 charge cycle.
In an email sent to Pixel 6A users, Google teases support options for people who may not be happy with the battery. This includes a possible battery change or cash payment. As Google’s spokesperson told Android Authority, “Pixel 6A will require the need to update the software to reduce the heat risk in a sub -battery. The update will enable the battery management features that will reduce the capacity and charging efficiency after reaching the battery 400 charging cycle.”
Google did something similar on Pixel 4A earlier this year, and in some cases, it even offered free battery change. It is unclear whether Google will do the same here, but if this problem becomes more widespread, this can happen.
