One of the fastest ways to increase additional income. It’s flexible, less overhead, and you may start with pre -existing skills.
Abe Ashley told me about starting his service business in 2013, “I had a lot of drive below me.”
Abe began to serve as a virtual assistant, and is associated with his first clients in local networking events in Washington, DC. Time to end my maternity leave – in just a few months – Baby did a lot of work that he did not have to go back to the job he hated.
In the upper part, she had to work only 20 hours a week to do it, and she could work at home.
There are almost no obstacles to admission to launching a freelance service business, and the startup cost is minimal. (All Abe made business cards for networking.)
In fact, it was a service business, in my case, a house painting business, which was one of my first business adventures.
Over time, Abe scored his virtual assistant business only for $ 20-30 an hour, in his small virtual agency, $ 75 per hour and for some special tasks.

From Virtual Assistant to Service Business Trainer
Soon, the questions came from friends and colleagues:
- How can I do you?
- How can I work from home and fix my times?
- How can I work with which I enjoy?
In response, he created a complete training program for Virtual Assistants. It has helped thousands of people start their service business and have built A promoted independent community of virtual assistants.

What service can you offer?
“I didn’t come with a ton of skills, but I began to see what I could do to other business owners,” Abbey explained.
For business owners he began to do some first tasks:
- Posting on Instagram, Facebook, and other social media platforms
- Writing blog posts and updating website content
- Handle appointment booking and phone calls
Business owners need to remove many tasks from their plates, they are not rocket science. She was able to do everything she asked about it with her day job skills, and in these matters she was entrusted with something new, the business owner provided training.
“Even if he never hired the role of this character, he has a process for him,” Abbey explained. This is also my experience with hiring freelancers. In most cases, I have a process that I am already taking into action, but just want to start assigning it.
3 column method
To start construction of a potential menu of services, Abe recommended this exercise. On a piece of 3 columns, make 3 lists:
- The skill you enjoy.
- The skills you do not enjoy.
- The skills you do not yet know but are interested in learning.
I think you will come up with a wider field of skill that you may have ever thought you have.
Free Lance Market Place method
If you are struggling for ideas, just go to a large market for freelancers, such as upwork or foor. See category and subcutaneous skills on these sites and freelance skills. I am sure you have many skills you have.
An interesting point – and competition for the usual advice of “niche down” – is that Abe recommended starting as a normal virtual assistant. In the early days of your business, let the clients advance your role, and over time you will learn the tasks you really like and are effective.
How to get your first customers in your service business
First, Abe recommended to join this Virtual Sevice Facebook Group. In press time, there are more than 30K members, jointly jointly with daily job opportunities. In addition, it is always helpful to get the support network of other virtual assistants to talk.
Start from your network
Abe also recommends starting talks with friends and family about your new service business. Even if they are not in a position to get your services, it is always the opportunity to know someone looking for help. Word of mouth is a powerful marketing tool.
Do not restrict yourself to an online space. When you go about your day, you may face other people locally who can use your help. It always begins with curious, listening and trying to find potential sectors in your business you can serve.
Abe also said that keep yourself out and let business owners tell what you are doing. “Most of us know at least one small business owner, talk to them first.” In most cases, they will be very excited to see someone else jumping into the entrepreneurship!
Local Matt Aps and Networking events
Check your local Meeting Group too. There are always networking events for businessmen and other matches that you can attend to introduce yourself to other business people and business owners.
Abbey said you can only introduce yourself and explain what you do, and if they need a virtual assistant, they will think about you. “Many times, it sold itself,” said Abe.
Target the high -end client
Abe shared something that he calls “targeting the client at the end of the high end”. This is the “first time” technique that she descends to her biggest client and also helps her students get well paid clients.
If you know about someone for whom you would like to work, there are some steps you can take notice and possibly hire. If you are not already, start focusing on them. Read their blog, listen to their podcast, etc. There is a good chance that they will bring holes and pains to their business.
For example, they can mention that they have never been successful using a pandist. If you have a Pennacist experience, this is a great opportunity to serve them to solve their pain point.
Create some of their recent content for some Pennastrist-Opestamized photos, and send them to email for free. This is a good way to break the disorder and give the first value. You can mention that if you are interested, you offer Pennast Management Services.
Even if it does not turn into a job with this customer, it usually turns into a relationship. Making such a positive first impression is a good way to become a high mind if they can know someone else who can use your services.
The price of your service
When Abbey landed his first client, he had a mixture of emotions. She was happy to have a client, but also knew that she had to work some details – like in contracts and payments.
She used to determine her pricing on which other virtual assistants were charging, and how they were determining their package prices. She landed at a rate of $ 30 per hour. Lia SHE of ordinary virtual assistants, he suggested not to start $ 20 below $ 20.
Abbie started selling “hours bundles” because it was the one who was doing other Vas. He sold the package of 10, 20, or 40 hours and signed with the payment details and terms.
The new service businessmen Lia SH, he recommended to work backward with the income of your goals, and keeping in mind how many hours are available to work for your work and allocation for taxes.
As far as a legal institution is concerned, Abbey worked as a single owner when he started working as a VA, and his location needs to be seized in only $ 30 domestic business. Indeed, the rules and regulations are different in terms of the country, state and city in terms of state.
How to enhance and measure your service business
Working as a Virtual Assistant or any service business is still doing timely business for money, which removes some businessmen. “I already work at work!” Abe fought the fact, “Yes, it’s still a time to trade for money, but you have to do 2 hours without traveling to your home.”
There are numerous ways to enhance the service business, including:
- Increase your rates
- Creating a “productized” package
- Digital Product DIY Guide for customers that you do not want to work with each other (or can’t afford).
- Hobbing sub contractors to work.
Abbie explained, “Most of my students form a mini -agency. It was the model that he pursued in his virtual assistant business, and eventually he had a team of 4 contractors. As a project manager and team leader, you are responsible for the work, and the work.
Next steps
Abbey’s #1 Tip had to give yourself some grace. We are obliged to make some mistakes and face some challenges along the way. It’s life! Give yourself some grace, the axis of the next thing, and keep walking.
