My relationship with shoes changed when my sister gifted me a pair of New Balance 574 Core shoes. Previously, my athletic shoe collection was, well, limited to shoes that exuded an entirely sporty look and feel, including Nike and Asics running shoes. While my preferred shoes were perfect for sweat sessions, they weren’t really as stylish as the running shoes I’d seen on various fashion-forward people and celebrities.
My sister, a runner, HIIT aficionado, and also literally the trendiest person I know, spent “many hours” researching the best running shoes to gift me. His mission was fueled by a lack of “a cool, comfortable, casual shoe” he realized after meeting me in New York City.
I fell in love with the New Balance 574 shoes from the moment I laced them up and slipped into their cloud-like comfort. In the months since, I’ve worn the shoes countless times. In fact, they are among the most worn items in my entire wardrobe. I’ve since learned that New Balance’s Nimbus 574 style is also a go-to for celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski and Olivia Wilde, which makes me feel on trend most of the time when I wear them. And right now, they’re also on sale on Amazon starting at $94, so I might as well restock my old pair.

New Balance 574 Core Shoe Review
How I Experienced: I’ve worn these shoes with practically every outfit, including athleisure, casual denim looks, and even dresses. I’ve tested them in winter weather and summer-like spring weather, and in a variety of locations, including mile-long walks around New York City, moderate-impact hikes and long road trips.
Perfect for: When you get little relief from standing, long, heavy walking days, including running errands around town and visiting a new place on vacation. They’re also ideal for travel, as they’re incredibly snug and not overly tight, making them great for plane trips and long car rides, especially if you have swollen feet.
What would you like: These shoes are extremely versatile—both from a style perspective and from a daily activity perspective. They prevent foot fatigue and have a super comfortable, cloud-like feel that provides all-day comfort.
Keep in mind: While these are traditionally athletic brand shoes, they are unremarkable for running and high-impact exercise due to their snug nature and fit, which is on the roomier side than most athletic shoes I’ve tried.
The New Balance 574 Core shoes are truly the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. As their name suggests, they have a cloud-like feel. They are super snug and support my feet when I’m pounding the floor. While I do get a blistering or burning sensation on my heel when I wear them around town for over an hour before I break them in, these are very wearable out of the box. New Balance shoes are extremely, reasonably comfortable. I have yet to experience any degree of foot fatigue, which allows me to get through a busy day in total comfort, with no tired, sore feet – more than I can say for my shoes.
The shoes come in an array of colors. TBH, I love the style, fit, and feel so much more, I plan to snag more colors, including the burgundy shade I currently own. That said, the neutral look of my current pair makes them extremely versatile. For that reason, I’ve dubbed them my “no-brainer” shoe: 99 percent of the time, I can throw them on with whatever I’m wearing and still look stylish and on purpose. As a result, they have helped me save time when deciding on shoes, which is often a stressful early morning. As someone who struggles with getting off on time, the versatile style of these new balances has been a game changer.
In addition to everyday wear – such as work and long walks – these shoes are also perfect for long travel days. In particular, they have a snug fit, which allows for a less restricted feel on long plane rides.
The exterior of the shoe is made from suede and has a subtle white mesh section at the front, which provides airflow and comfort. The rubber sole is thick, which I like from a shock-absorbing standpoint. I also like it style-wise: IMO, the sole height creates a flattering, slightly leg-enhancing effect. The grippy blacks are slightly visible from the side profile of the shoe, which also adds an interesting design detail.
For the perfect running sneaker that’s super stylish, celebrity-worn, and oh-so-comfortable, buy the New Balance 574 Shoes on Amazon for $94.
