The key path
- Vibe coding is the practice of instructing AI to write code using plain English notation.
- CEOs like Google’s Sundar Pichai and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang have touted AI’s ability to write code.
- I put Vibcoding to the test, creating a mood tracker app in less than five minutes using Pear.
In August, Anton Osica, the 35-year-old CEO of Web coding platform LoableAI, said artificial intelligence has largely eliminated the need for “technical know-how” and “years of training” to build technology products.
AI now allows people to “go from idea to working product” without ever touching a formal CS (computer science) education, Osika said. Business Insider.
Key coding, or AI coding assistants such as gestures, cursors, and text, is the use of transcription to convert gestures into code. Even Google CEO Sundar Pichai admitted to “vibe coding” his website for fun in June.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in the same month that AI now enables non-technical users to write code by giving them prompts in plain English. He said AI is the “great equalizer” when it comes to bringing ideas to life with code of conduct.

Can anyone code Vibe, or is it just an exercise for CEOs? I coded my app and put it to the test.
Coding a mood tracking app
I am a reporter for Entrepreneurcovering everything from small businesses to tech giants. Although I have some familiarity with basic coding since college, it was the last time I coded anything. I chose the cute platform because it is beginner friendly and has a free plan. I signed up with an email address and password, and immediately. Just started.
I wanted to create a simple mood tracking app that allows users to log their moods and see a chart of their mood trends over time. The app should have the option to export mood data and set daily reminders for mood check-ins.

I’ve given a loving hint: “Users log in and view color-coded charts showing emotional trends over time. Add reminders and data export features.”
After 20 seconds of thought, Dear promises to create “a beautiful mood tracking app with emotional trend visualization, reminders, and data export!”
A few minutes later, the app was ready. It features five emotional states (happy, calm, neutral, anxious and down), an interactive dashboard with mood trend charts, a color-coded calendar view, a daily reminder system and an option to export data to JSON/CSV. Dear told me that all the data is stored locally in the user’s browser.

AI Code Assistant even gave the app a name: Modflow. The app was ready to publish in less than five minutes, including the time it took to sign up for a loved one.

I’ll really need to test the app for a few months to see how good it is at tracking my mood and to see if the Trends and Calendar tabs are populated effectively, but so far from what I can tell it’s working well. Although the app I developed was simple, it can still work as an effective mood tracker.
I’m not the only one tapping into AI to create apps without manually writing a single line. In February, The New York Times Tech columnist Kevin Rose writes that by taking a picture of what was in his fridge, he was able to code an app to help his son decide what to pack for lunch.
Rishabh Jain, a neuroscience student at Harvard University, said after a few months, NBC News That he coded an app that translates ancient texts into English.

The US market for AI code assistants such as Pear was valued at $1.8 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach $12.4 billion within the next decade.
I found coding an app easy and intuitive, and I can see myself doing it again. It was free and completed in less than five minutes – making creating an app as easy as downloading.
