The 2025 Toro Titan Max is a heavy-duty zero-turn mower built for the rigors of mowing large lawns, with rugged styling to match. The Titan Series is Toro’s premier range of residential zero-turn mowers and features serviceable components and controls similar to commercial mowers. During the 2-month test, I experienced impressive lawn-mowing performance and a comfortable ride.
Having previously tested the Toro Time Cater Myroid, I wanted to understand the difference between this platform and the larger, stronger Titan Max. Both are built on stout 10-gauge steel frames with 10-gauge steel cutting decks, but Toro uses Grade 50 hardened steel in the Titan series to increase durability. The Titan Max is equipped with a 747 cc, 26 horsepower Kohler engine compared to the 708 cc, 24.5 horsepower Toro commercial engine I tested. The extra horsepower translates to faster mowing speeds. The Titan Max also features larger wheels (23-inch drive wheels and 13-inch casters) compared to the Time Cater (18-inch drive wheels and 11-inch casters). Equipped with a 60-inch cutting deck, the Titan Max weighs 876 pounds.

All of this size and power translated into extremely capable cutting performance. With a blade tip speed of just 18,900 feet per minute, the deck generated enough airflow for a crisp, clean cut on thick zoysia and bermuda grass as well as grassy areas, and discharged clippings in a 30-foot stroke. I especially liked the wide range of cutting heights: from 1.5 inches to a full 5 inches. High altitudes are perfect for fields and natural areas that only need to be mowed once or twice during the growing season. The Titan Max did a really good job clearing a patch of wild grass and weeds along a utility path that borders my property.
High speed and maneuverability are major advantages of zero-turn mowers over other types of riding mowers. Titan Max proved to be quite nimble. Pro-Control steering dampers give it excellent response without wobble, and the straight-ahead speed with a 60-inch-wide deck allows it to cover up to 4.9 acres per hour. However, the tires can be a little aggressive on some terrain, and operators need to be especially aware of deep tread on steering tires. On some sharp, sharp turns on damp ground, the drive wheel sent the turf flying, leaving muddy tire tracks on the lawn. But with average caution, the steering system minimizes the risk.
Most residential-grade zero-turn mowers are slightly smaller and slower than the average commercial model, but the Titan Max bridges that gap considerably without breaking the bank. I appreciated the pro-style drop pin system to adjust cutting height and deck lift pedals for quick, precise adjustments and easy transport. I also like that Toro packs a number of strong specs into this retail-ready model that are often reserved for dealer-exclusive products. Examples include rigid steel construction, a deeply padded 23-inch-high rear seat with armrests, seat belts, rollover protection (ROPS), removable floor pan, and bright LED headlights.
Anyone with a large acreage will appreciate the 7-gallon gas tank for extended use between fill-ups. Overall, the Titan Max felt more like a commercial zero-turn mower than a residential model—faster, stronger, and more comfortable—which is exactly what I want for a long day mowing a large property.
