Last week, investigators charged a man with the North Carolina Department of Insurance to blow around $ 1 million and seek $ 887,500 from travel insurance companies from 2020 to 2024.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Kaze announced that Michael Gerard Reena, 50, of Clayton, near the rally, has been accused of 26 counts of insurance fraud, 18 counting of property by false showing and 10 counts of property from false excuses.
Reena allegedly made medical documents fake and changed identification, credit card statements and flight information, then submitted documents as well as claims for travel losses. According to the County Sheriff’s office, he was arrested on Friday and was kept in Johnston County Jail before a Monday court.
The North Carolina Department of Insurance did not name the travel insurance companies that were cheated or explained how the scheme was exposed.
