- Piotto Vogts has completed the Rallye dos Sertões several times.
- The event covers approximately 2,200 miles of Brazilian wilderness.
- The 911 Dakar was the first Porsche to take part in this treacherous event.
When Porsche first announced the 911 Dakar, most people assumed the car would end up in the hands of people who were unlikely to ever get their expensive rides dirty. Although there is a car. Literally Named after a legendary off-road rally.
However, not every 911 Dakar buyer is content to focus on local cars and coffee. For example the Piotto Vogt family from Brazil used their 911 Dakar to complete the incredibly difficult Rallye dos Sertões. This is the first time a Porsche has taken part in a long off-road adventure.

This rally was first started in 1993. It is considered one of the toughest events in South America, usually tackled on motorcycles, side by side, and quads. Susiele and her husband Freddie have competed against each other in past competitions. This time, they thought the 911 would be the perfect car for the Dakar race.
To complete the rally, Piotto Vogts (along with his son João Pedro) covered nearly 2,100 miles from start to finish. This is just the rally course; However, the trip yesterday involved a long drive to and from the race. All told, the family racked up more than 4,600 miles on Dakar’s odometer over two weeks.
A support SUV was also included, but the rally was otherwise run in this Rumble 911. The family slept in a tent on the roof, drove through water courses, and really put the car to the test.
Motor1’s tech: It’s always fun to see a vehicle used for purpose. But when that car is a rally-ready 911, it’s all the better. Often, such cars end up in locked garages where tires are spun in anger.
The Piotto Vogt family understands why a car like the 911 Dakar exists, and we raise a glass to them for taking on this incredible challenge.
