Pleasure and sex collide in Pippa Salazar’s latest collection. The designer side built on the ever-established hyper-feminine language, with softly flowing accents and floral prints, feathers, lace and velvet. He described how he “played with classic—or almost vintage—materials, sometimes cheesy or fussy within my usual framework, yet each turned into twisted t-shirts or miniskirts that completely reclaimed their meaning.”
The polos were elevated with details that ranged from embroidered logos to Strauss-inspired phrases like “Miss You” on the back, elements that are signatures of Salazar’s work. She notes, “The collections always have a touch of autobiography or edgy humor. Balance is also key to her universe. “The tension in the fabric comes from the way I work and the way I dress,” explains Salazar. She adds, “I like to design for women who are carefree.
This diverse idea of the Salazar woman came to life in the casting of this collection. which included singer Amor, historian Ana Gariga, actress Ana Rojas, and stylist Helena Tejdor, as well as model Mariam Sanchez. “Each of them has their own voice, a talent that they fully embrace. They are a statement in themselves, magnetic. They are women who inspire me.”
“People often tell me that my pieces have a sexy edge, but to me the sexiest thing is the talent,” Salazar revealed. “There used to be a clear contradiction between being an intellectual woman and embracing sex. I want to merge the two: I’m attracted to the voice of charismatic people.” His new collection seamlessly manages to do both.
