A historic waterfront estate in Connecticut that was built for the family behind the famed Pond’s Cold Cream has been put on the market for $1.83 million—136 years after the beauty moguls moved into the opulent residence.
Located in Milford, CT, the six-bedroom mansion sits on nearly 1 acre of pristine, private land, which once made up a small section of the Pond family’s sprawling estate.
The property that is now on the market served as the primary residence for the founders of the beauty brand, which was established by pharmacist Theron T. Pond in 1846, when he discovered a unique blend of ingredients that would later become known as the brand’s “Golden Treasure.”
Though the original Mr. Pond died in 1852, his heirs are said to have resided on the estate for years after it was completed.
“The Pond Estate on Point Lookout is a truly remarkable water oriented home steeped in history and timeless elegance,” the listing notes. “Built in 1890 for the original owners of Pond’s Cold Cream, this iconic residence commands wonderful views of Long Island Sound in three directions, delivering breathtaking sunrises and unforgettable sunsets.”

When it was built, the home was surrounded by several other structures, all of which made up the grand Pond family’s estate.
Perched on the edge of the Long Island Sound, the property boasts spectacular views out over the water—which is said to have been witness to a great deal of action during the Pond family’s ownership.
“Mr. Pond is said to have had a plane and one of the homes was his hangar,” listing agent Frank D’Ostilio of Houlihan Lawrence Wareck D’Ostilio revealed. “Another was a boathouse that was later converted to a residence. Legend has it that Mr. Pond once missed the strip and landed in the water.”
In the decades since the Pond family occupied the estate, the property has slowly been carved up and sold off piece by piece—with this property last changing hands in December 1997 for just $485,000.
“The original Point Lookout was a subdivision and all of the land used to belong with this property,” D’Ostilio noted. “It was subdivided over the years and a few of the homes were conversions for other properties.
“It’s located in the most popular neighborhood in Milford with incredible views, but is not in a flood zone which is hard to find.”
Inside, the charming 5,882-square-foot coastal retreat boasts a thoughtfully updated interior.
“The sellers remodeled all of the bathrooms except one that was done by the prior owner,” he said. “They also put a new roof on in 2025.”

Modern updates include a chef’s kitchen with granite countertops, a butler’s pantry, a sun-soaked dining area, and an oversized island.
“It is the perfect home for old school entertaining with its large formal dining room, butler’s pantry, and wraparound three-season porch,” D’Ostilio said. “For a vintage home of this age, it’s in excellent condition.”
Historic highlights remaining intact include preserved hardwood floors, custom millwork, built-ins, a grand staircase, and five fireplaces.
“The home has been used as both a primary and secondary residence,” he noted. “I think the next buyer will be someone from New York, California, or a local resident who wants to live on that street.”
An upstairs bonus room with wet bar is also ideal for entertaining. Other modernizations include a stone porte-cochere that was transformed into a covered patio that doubles as a sports court. A heated in-ground pool can also be found on the private lot.
“Milford has gotten very popular over the years,” D’Ostilio said. “It has 17 miles of waterfront. Silver Sands State Park is nearby along with two other town-owned beaches.
“It is also the only shoreline town that has a train with access to New York City, a town green, and harbor all in one place.”
