Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple has approved a request for a 6.6 percent average rate reduction for Progressive Security Insurance Company’s more than 270,000 private passenger auto insurance policyholders and a 4% average reduction for Progressive Paulwood Insurance Company’s nearly 200,000 policyholders. Progressive Security’s 6.6 percent decline followed a 3.2 percent decline in the company’s July 2025 filing.
Combined, the two progressive companies write approximately 23.5% of Louisiana’s private passenger auto insurance market. These changes are effective January 16, 2026 for new business and February 13, 2026, for renewal business. Rate changes are statewide averages, so each policyholder’s rate change will vary based on their individual risk.
The Louisiana Department of Insurance said in a statement that Progressive indicated that the decrease was primarily driven by a decrease in the frequency of claims.
