Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra’s Screen Isn’t as Good as First Claimed

A week after Unpacked, where Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S26 series, the brand has now confirmed that the screen upgrade previously done on the Galaxy S26 Ultra is not on its next-generation smartphone.

    https://www.tiqets.com/en/new-york-new-york-hotel-casino-tickets-l235895/?partner=travelpayouts.com&tq_campaign=bc55a31e7f434e4ab93246c49-615741

Samsung told select press and media outlets ahead of its Galaxy S26 Ultra launch that it would use a 10-bit panel to improve color depth, but has since confirmed that this is not the case. In comments to Samsung Mobile and Android Authority, Samsung confirmed that every Galaxy S26 device uses an 8-bit panel.

Samsung also told YouTuber MrWhoseTheBoss that it will use tech designed to “mimic 10-bit” without further details. It may be the brand that uses Frame Rate Control (FRC) features to simulate 10-bit color depth, but Samsung has yet to confirm how it works on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

This tweet is currently unavailable. It may be loading or may have been removed.

If you’re not familiar with color depth, the difference between 8-bit and 10-bit may not seem like much. However, 10-bit color depth provides over a billion colors per pixel, while 8-bit is limited to 16 million.

You’re unlikely to notice much of a difference, but it may mean that shades that transfer to other colors may not look as smooth.

Samsung has not commented on the mistakenly claimed 10-bit spec, but several US-focused media outlets have said it was provided during the briefing, suggesting it was a widely-discussed error on Samsung’s part. There was no mention of the feature at Samsung UK’s briefing, which PCMag attended.

Could this error be a sign that Samsung was considering upgrading to a 10-bit panel but ultimately decided against it? We may hear more from the brand in the future, but only time will tell, and it could be the Galaxy S27 series before similar tech hits Samsung devices.
