Alabama’s insurance department has promoted Dusti Smith to the role of Deputy Commissioner, replacing Jimmy Gun, who is retiring in the department after 36 years.
Former insurance agent Smith joined the sector in 2011 and served as Consumer Services Division Manager since 2019. From next year, they will take over the gun and oversee five divisions: rates and form, consumer services, activities services, producer licensing and new pharmacy benefits.
Dui said in a bulletin, at the end of January 2026, he will withdraw from the gun. He led the Producer Licensing Division for 20 years before the Deputy Commissioner’s development in 2020.

Earlier, Gun worked as a rate analyst and earlier, he worked with South Guarantee Insurance and Safeko Insurance.
