Bill Winter, CEO of the 160-year-old Bank Standard Chartered, says the MBA that he received from the University of Pennsylvania Warton School of Business was a “waste of time”-but the undergraduate degree of humanity he received from Colgate University.

In an interview broadcast earlier this week, Bloomberg’s French Lako asked 63 -year -old Winter what he would recommend to the youth. Winters replied that he graduated in 1983 and studied international relations and history as undergraduate. He recommended these areas, and said that the important thing in these areas taught “how to think”.

He said his MBA was unnecessary from Wartin in 1988.

“I later found an MBA, but it was a waste of time,” said Winter. Bloomberg. “I learned how to think at the university. For 40 years, when I left the university, these skills were harassed, harassed, harassed.”

Winters explained that critical thinking skills are “returning” and is now becoming more important in manpower as AI is working on the technical aspect.

“I really think in the AI era that it is critical that you know how to think and communicate,” said Winters.

He made it clear that communication does not mean that they work like Chat GPT and make answers, but knowing the audience and assessing their needs with curiosity and sympathy. Winters said technical skills need “minimal”.

Winters began his career with JP Morgan in 1983, with the CEO of JP Morgan’s Investment Bank co -CEO in almost three decades. He was considered to be a potential successor to Jamie Demon, CEO of JP Morgan, but was expelled by Demon in October 2009. He started his fund management business in 2011, Ransha Bay and joined the Standard Chartered in 2015.

Winters is not the only executive that encourages human studies. Goldman Sex Chief Information Officer, Marco Argenty, wrote in a post in the Harvard Business Review last year that engineers want to take standard engineering courses as well as philosophy classes. This is the advice he gave to the daughter of his college age who was wondering what to study.

Meanwhile, big -tech companies are fast adopting AI in their work as technology increases on technical skills. AI produces about 30 % new code in Google and Microsoft, and developed software in Meta to half next year.

The “vibing coding”, or indicator AI code is also on the rise of entire apps and projects. Even Google CEO Sunder Pachai said earlier this month that he had used AI coding assistants for a “web code” in his spare time.
