
In early February, Valve confirmed that Steam Machine’s launch had been pushed out of the initial release window of 2026 due to an ongoing RAM shortage. At the time, Valve expressed confidence that a 2026 release was still on the table, but the company seemed slightly less confident in its Air in Review 2025 report, which initially said on the afternoon of March 6: “We expect to ship in 2026.” However, the company has since clarified that there has been no change in its plans.
In a statement to The Verge, Valve PR said, “Nothing has really changed on our end.” The Verge also noted that Valve’s language in the Year in Review 2025 report had changed, from a vague use of “hope” to “we’ll ship all three products this year.”
The report notes that “the Steam Machine has six times the horsepower of the Steam Deck, packed with a sleek, quiet form factor.” Like Steam Decks before it, players will be able to install custom software on the Steam Machine just like they would for any PC. Alternatively, it can only be used to explore the Steam ecosystem and play games at will.
