The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) Fraud Unit announced this week that it participated in an insurance fraud investigation of $50.9 million in court-ordered restitution in fiscal year 2025.
More than 20 TDI investigators working across the state reviewed 314 cases of insurance fraud, the department said.
After digging into the finances and interviewing suspects and victims, investigators passed their cases to TDI attorneys for prosecution. In the courts, fraudsters were often sentenced to prison time, fines and restitution, ordered to pay back their victims.
TDI said an investigation resulted in jail time, a $10,000 fine, and a court-ordered recovery for former Houston insurance agent Mark Davis Lunsford. Lunsford allegedly sold fake insurance policies and stole more than $8,318,000 in premiums from clients.
