Tesla has filed two new logo trademarks in the United States for the long-awaited Roadster. One shows an updated wordmark, while the other shows a stylized silhouette of the car. Tesla filed both on February 3, 2026.
Tesla first teased a new Roadster eight years ago in November 2017 with a surprise reveal alongside the company’s electric semi. At the time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed the car would be available in 2020 with a starting price of $200,000, a top speed of more than 250 mph, and a 0-100 mph sprint in 4.2 seconds.

In typical Tesla fashion, the automaker lost several people on that deadline and several others in the years since. We hadn’t heard much about the upcoming roadster. These new trademark filings are the best indication that the Roadster could debut soon. There is hope.
Tesla noted in its most recent earnings report that it “continues preparations in North America for production of the next-generation Roadster.” Musk said late last year that the automaker would hold a Roadster 2 demo event on April 1, followed by production 12-18 months later.
But, Kasturi has made this promise before.

Take Motor 1: Tesla first showed off the new Roadster and it could very well be a decade before it actually hits the streets. The new trademark filing should be an indication that the long-awaited sports car is nearing its debut, but Tesla is known for its timeliness, and the April 1st demo gave Musk the perfect excuse if the car isn’t ready.
