The teacher picked up 8,888 bitcoins (BTC) on New Year’s Eve, increasing its disclosed bitcoin stash to more than 96,000 to close out 2025, its CEO Paolo Arduino said.

The USDT (USDT) stablecoin issuer has become one of the largest active bitcoin holders, making the company’s bitcoin address the fifth largest behind Binance, Robinhood, and Bitfinex and the second largest privately held corporate BTC treasury.

The move is part of Teacher’s quarterly bitcoin collection pattern. The company has been delivering up to 15% of its earnings in Bitcoin every three months. The latest batch was valued at around $780 million at the time of acquisition.

    Teacher’s gold and reserve mix

Bitcoin isn’t the company’s only hard asset bet. TEACHER bought 26 tonnes of gold in Q3 2025, the largest quarterly acquisition of any reporting central bank and placed its total holdings at 116 tonnes among the world’s top 30 gold holders.

This mix of US Treasuries, bitcoin and gold has drawn scrutiny from rating agencies and analysts, with S&P recently cutting the USDT’s score from “compelling” to “weak” on transparency and concentration risks. Former Bitmax CEO Arthur Hess raised red flags on rising bitcoin and the gold share of reserves.

Tether’s bitcoin holdings also occasionally drop throughout the year. After his first quarter purchases, he had more than 100,000 BTC. Its fluctuating bitcoin balance led pundits to speculate that the company was selling bitcoin.

Still, Arduino denied the claims and said it had a stake in “XXI,” referring to Twenty One Capital, a company backed by Techer.

Twenty-one capitals held 43,514 BTC as of New Year’s Day, making it the third-largest bitcoin bag among state-owned companies behind Mara Holdings and Strategy.

The year-end allocation also comes in the midst of a broader corporate takeover of bitcoin land. Japan-listed Metaplanet added another 4,279 BTC on Tuesday to take its treasury to 35,102 BTC.

The strategy also raised equity and debt to expand what is already the largest corporate bitcoin treasury, pushing its stake to more than 670,000.
