The original New Classes of the BMW of the 1960s and 1970s created a brand that we know and loved today. Certainly, BMW had made cars since the late 1920s, but this did not happen until 1500 Sidan arrived in 1962, and in 1969, the famous 2002, BMW became BMW.
So, when the Bavarin automaker revives such an important name, you know that this is a big deal. Today, the new New Class Family starts its production at the Munich Motor Show in the form of IX3, which is the most important BMW car in decades.
The IX3 is the first in many cars riding on the New Class EV platform. This is a break from the current BMW strategy to sell internal combinations and electric cars on the same bones, as it happens with 4, 5, and 7 series models. This IX3 will survive with the current, gas -powered X3.
BMW promises big things. The IX3 50 xdrive will have a range of 400 miles, with 463 horsepower and 473 pounds of tour with two electric motors. The promised basic price is about $ 60,000. It makes the IX3 less than $ 10,000 from the current four cylinder X3 and about $ 5,000 from six cylinders X3 m50. But EV has a lot of power, and of course, it is much more effective.

New class cars are built on BMW’s first 800 volt architecture, which, in addition to other things, enables incredible charging speed. The IX3 can charge up to 400 kW, which translates the DC fast charger into about 230 miles in 10 minutes, which is worth such strength. This is a way to charge some Chinese EV megawatts, but it makes IX3 one of the fastest charging EVs sold in the United States.
Compared to the gas X3, the IX3 whale is slightly taller in the base and the total length, but mostly in other dimensions. This design is influenced by both New Class and New Class X fiction, and of course, the original Sidan and Copes of the 1960s. Quadlights have long been BMW signatures, and long, thin kidney girls are like original New Classes.
In this way, the IX3 is not so dramatically different from the X3, with both slabs with a growing character line -on -sided character and doors, but there are rear shoulders in the EV that are more blinking. Near the back, IX3 has a wide range of gelitis, but they are separate units, which eliminates the entire width lighting trend so many other car makers have accepted it. It is a BMW’s first software -determined vehicle (SDV), after which after the trend started by Tesla and Raven, less, more powerful computers have been used to control the functions of the vehicle. The BMW calls them “Super Browns”, and there are four for the whole car.
A BMW says “the heart of happiness”, it connects all the car’s dynamic systems – power train, breaking, steering, suspension – in a unit. The upshot has a more precise control of how IX3 drives, which says BMW says it benefits, handling and performance.
Another super brain driver handles all systems to help. As a standard, IX3 receives adaptive cruise control and lane caps, while the hand -off highway driving system is optional. BMW says the new system allows a more smooth hand off between humans and the machine. The driver can overwhelm the relief system with a steering or brake input, but they do not close the system automatically. Instead, after the driver made the input, they will be reunited without interruption.

IX3 uses home -made motors BMW, which prevents permanent magnets. BMW says these new motors are 40 % more efficient than their predecessors, while 10 % is light and 20 % cheaper. Battery cells are also 20 % more energy dense than existing BMW cells.
The BMW also developed the inverters at home, and the IX3 will be the first BMW to support the Tesla -style NACS charging port and the first BMW to support two -dimensional charging, which means you can strengthen electronics with your car. The CCS adapter will also be included in the BMW as a standard.
In ordinary BMW fashion, the IX3 uses a MacFarsen Strete Front Excel that has a new design behind the multi link. The weight distribution is 48.6 % front, 51.4 % behind, though the BMW does not refer to the actual weight data. It has been claimed that 0-60 miles per hour is 4.7 seconds, and the high speed is 130 miles per hour. The standard wheels are 20 inches, but as part of the M Sport Package, both 21- and 22 inches are optional.
The BMW will manufacture IX3 in a new plant in the Hungarian city of Debrain, which will begin in the first quarter of the US production 2026, and will be delivered next summer.

Of all German car makers, BMW has gone the most success. His approach to creating the platforms of EVS for both electric and combustion power has so far done better. But such a platform is naturally compromised. BMW needs a dedicated EV platform, and with a new class, it is removing all stops.
The original New Class was a revolution. The BMW is hoping that the new New Class will be another under the leadership of IX3.
