As an alternative to RV or tent camping, visitors to Eveglades National Park, Florida, can now test the park’s sole hotel residence Flemingo Lodge.
Spread over 1.5 million acres, Florida’s Eveglades National Park was established in 1947, initially as a Wilderry Park for day visitors, but local tourism lobbyed for staying overnight. In response, in 1966, Flingo Lodge opened. The two -storey lodge had 60 units and a ground pool, and in the next 40 years, the property became a popular holiday place for local and outside city.
The loss of Hurricane Katrina and Vilma forced the lodge to close in 2005, and eventually the structure was demolished in 2009. In the years of this operation, the visitors who wanted to spend the night in the park could rent the house boot, stand tents, or stand their camp van or RV, but the nearby hotel was located an hour in Florida City.
Filaningo Lodge eventually reopened at the end of 2023, about 20 years after its demolition. Lodge Florida -based tour company is a public private partnership between Flemingo Adventures and the National Park Service, and a 24 -room property has been constructed from sustainable steel shipping containers.
“The territory of Flemingo in Everglaids National Park has been an important destination for park visitors who have been seeking to find the country’s largest sub -tropical desert,” said JJ JJ Condila, general manager of Flingo Adventure. Travel + leisure. “The original Flemango Lodge has been a popular location for nearly 40 years, and we are proud to unveil the only hotel in the National Park, together with the National Park Service partners.”
Wishing to examine the new excavation, I arrived at Florida Eveglades National Park in a crisp in January – my first visit to the spraying park overnight. Although I have been in Florida for more than two decades, I am a self -made glamor and was hesitant to set up a camp in the park overnight. During my stay, I kicked on the bay, enjoyed a sunset boat ride through the swamp, and increased calm trails – every evening I am grateful to return to a hot shower and comfortable bed.
If you are thinking about a visit to Florida’s largest National Park overnight, everything you need to know about booking in Flingo Lodge is.
Room
In my 420 square feet of a bedroom sweet, a waterproof limement wood floor and a kitchen containing a stove, refrigerator or microwave. The main residential space had a compact but comfortable sleeper sofa, work space, and four Ottomans. Although the lodge is made of shipping container, the only marks of industrial materials within the rooms were white corrugated metal roofs.
The rest of the sweatts were manufactured with a straw decoration decoration decoration of tail tone walls, lime curtains, and gold palm art prints, and the bedroom with a standstone wardrobe for Queen’s shaped bed and storage. Other options for the guest rooms include the studio and two bedrooms that are at the top of 640 square feet, and although there is no television there, when you are not to watch TV here, the mail and mail will be removed and mail away.
Food and drink
Food is offered at 4,000 square feet of restaurants connected to the lodge, and the counter service restaurants have comfortable dishes affected by the local flavors of Florida. The morning menu includes breakfast brotoes and smoking salmon seeds and lunch and dinner menu coconut crabs, crispy ampanidas, and a flavorful cone chewy soup.
The restaurant also has an option for your catch, and the cook will grill, roast or black your freshly caught fish and present it with fries, salads, or plant chips. You can take your meal out on the courtyard, and the outdoor girls between the residences are first available, on the basis of the first service.

Although the new lodge lacks ponds, the nearby park is a viable playground for water activities. Activities can be booked through the National Park Service or Flemingo adventures, which provide both water equipment rentals and guidance tours. My first morning, I signed up for a kicing tour and my guide, Tim Taylor, an experienced park ranger,, gave me the color history of the park during a two -hour tandem cake ride. We stood up with enthusiasm as soon as the bottles dolphin and Manites wandered a few feet from our Kaix and a bald eagle wandered with a fish, with a fish.
I also booked a afternoon wrestling tour, which was full of family, and we, under the brake waterways, were identified as the guides, Abis, and a gray black crocodile that stood perfectly for our pictures. The trails around the surrounding trail are excellent to run or walk, and I just just walked around my morning lodge on a half -mile loop.
Located just a few feet from the lodge, the center of the Bradley, named after the Bird Conservationist, offers an interactive display that tells the story of the first inhabitants of the park. Hurricane Irma reopened in July 2023, after renovation to repair a widespread damage to the flood. There is also an outdoor immune theater at a mile distance from the lodge, where nature is discussed a few nights a week.
Lex and stability
Made to counter hurricane winds and sea levels, lodge steel shipping containers are built with hurricane -affected windows, and the entire structure is erected at a distance of 13 feet from the ground, and meets with the Florida Building Code for coastal high -risk areas.
In an interview, the Chief of Communications and Public Affairs, the Chief of Communications and Public Affairs, said, “Including reservations for stability for both the new lodge and the visiting center provides flexibility to these visitors.” “We hope that the new lodge, restaurant, and the visiting center will encourage more passengers to discover and re -discover this unique public land.”
The visitors’ center also has low flu -plumbing fixtures, energy efficient windows, and LED lighting. The solar panels in this property are available on the site (though they are used to warm bathrooms and showers in nearby environmental tents), and the lodge is stocked with sustainable and environmentally friendly soap and shampoo. Four ADA rooms are accessible via walkway and elevator.
Location
Lodge is located deep inside Evergladdes Park, about two hours from the city’s city of Miami and 45 minutes from the park’s entrance. You will need a car because the park does not have public transportation or shuttle, but once you will be on hiking for each other in lodge, restaurant, center and marina.
