“Just this week, the policies of the city of shelters in New York City have yielded tragic results,” the department’s lawyers said.
The US Department of Justice has announced a lawsuit against New York City’s so -called “shelter” type of immigration policies, claiming that the local government’s approach to the policy puts federal immigration enforcement agents at risk and is a threat to the general public.
The litigation is the same in its contents and claims to increase similar complaints filed by the Trump administration in the courts across the country. Since President Donald Trump was inaugurated in January, his Department of Justice has taken legal action against New York, Colorado and Illinois states, and is continuing to prosecute.
Along with the New York City Rochester, with several New Jersey municipalities, the most relevant cases are facing.
In its claim against New York City, the Department of Justice has alleged that local policies are deliberately “designed to curb the federal government’s ability to enforce federal immigration laws”, which prefers state -level laws.
“New York City has released thousands of criminals on the streets for violent crimes against law citizens due to cities’ policies,” US Attorney General Palm Bondi said in a statement. “If New York City doesn’t stand up to protect its citizens, we will do it.”

“Both (suspects) illegally entered the United States and were repeatedly arrested on charges of criminal treatment.”
“(Mora) was arrested four different times in New York City, and because of the mayor’s policies and city policies, people and people living in the city were released to harm, the US Department of Security Secretary Christi Nim said in a statement.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a scandal -driven Democrat, said his city’s law office will review the case.
“Protecting New Yorkrs also means to make sure they feel safe, and we have become clear: no one should be afraid to dial 911, send their children to school, or go to the hospital, and no one should be forced to hide New York,” he said.
In the same statement, Adams made it clear that when they support the “essence of local laws”, they believe that some policies “when talking about dealing with these violent criminals on our streets” and urging the City Council to “ensure that we can work with the government to protect our city effectively.”
