This is 2017. The diesel gate is fully. The Volkswagen is trying to divert attention from the dirty scandal around the TDI cars, eliminating a lightweight of the ID. Concepts original ID Shoors have already debuted a year ago, followed by ID4 as an initial look through ID Cruise in 2017. But behind the design studio screen, something more interesting was taking shape: a sports car.
Never before, the sketches showed a thrilling style on the VW group’s MEB platform. The spokesperson for design and concept cars, štěpán řehák, recently shared amazing drawings Linked Fully electric sports car. Designed by Tabor Johans, the performance of the EV is aimed at paying tribute to SP2. No, Ferrari’s Monza SP2 is not a super car, but Volkswagen’s own sports coup from the 1970s.

Developed and made in Brazil, the original SP2 was based on the current type 3 to keep the cost low. This included the rear engine, the rear wheel drive layout. His spiritual successor, though never realized, made the air -cold engine and four -speed manual in favor of a power motor, probably in the back of it, as all MEB -based cars are rear or all -wheel drive.
While the original SP2 was not stalled by Georgato Gigaro, ID. Sports car first impressed the legendary designer behind the golf, Passat, Skroko, Jeta, and the Wild W -12 super car concepts. A Linked Post, Tabor shared the vision behind his modern -day SP2 outline, which was created in 2017:
“My SP2’s suggestion was created from pure intuition. He imagined an electrical future, yet he had a deep connection to classical values. My goal was clear: Putting what we explain, without losing it. Emotions, energy and vision come together to create something that is still echoing today.”
But the lower coap with his muscle mausoleums never made it a past with the drawing board. The VW had a big fish to roast more than launching, which was eventually a niche product. Instead, he focused on high volume EVs like ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7. Nevertheless, he found a place to play with the ID. Buzz, though, sadly, the sports car was left on the floor of the idiom cutting room.

This is not the first fascinating VW concept of unknown performance EV in the modern era, which has never reached production. Since we have brought the diesel gate, some may remember the 2009 Bluzport, which is a middle engineer roadter with a 2.0 -liter TDI. Earlier, before the 2005 acreor came, another diesel -powered concept. Then there was the 2014 XL Sport, in which the V-2 engine was applied from Dukati Superlegira. Yet all of these legends become yellow than the W12.
After European sales were banned on new cars with combustion engines, VW is too late to launch a new sports car with combustion engine. Nevertheless, these spiritual SP2 successors make a shining offer of hope that a dedicated performance model can one day be ready. Wolfsburg has promised to take the GTI and RBs into the electric period, but a stand sports car will be even more interesting in the mold of these two doors.
Certainly, it will not be sold like a hatchback, leaving like a crossover. But after a year’s loss of sports, the brand of VWs can be a surprise to the image. Audi is a waist for his “TT Moment of 2.0”, so maybe the time has come to follow the mainstream siblings?
