
Wolfenstein: Young Blood was a sour batch of sauerkraut. Marinated in the brine adjacent to an obnoxious and inept live service, this annoying spin-off (and the mediocre virtual reality title that launched alongside it) left a bad taste that has lingered for nearly seven years. Developer Machine Games’ adventures with another famous Nazi assassin and increasingly long AAA development cycles meant that the aftertaste of Young Blood stuck around much longer than it should have.
That drought is reportedly almost over, though, with reports predicting that the streets will soon be red with Nazi blood once again in a new Wolfenstein game, further backing up the lighthearted tease from the MachineGames team. There’s a lot riding on Wolfenstein 3: a game that has to live up to the moment in more ways than one – and can’t follow in Youngblood’s footsteps.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood is the fourth entry in MachineGames’ alt-history Wolfenstein series and sets the franchise in the 1980s. But instead of controlling longtime series hero BJ Blazkowicz in a single-player adventure, Youngblood puts players in the power armor of his twin daughters, Jess and Zofia, and, to top it all off, focuses more on co-op and RPG mechanics.
