
Xbox players and industry observers were shocked last week when Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer announced his retirement, with Xbox President Sarah Bond also announcing plans to leave the company. Now, Bond has given his reasons for parting ways with the company.
In a lengthy post on his LinkedIn page, Bond wrote that he’s committed to staying with Xbox and leading it through a “critical period of transformation” following its purchase of Activision Blizzard in 2022. He expressed his belief that the moment has been “navigated” and that Xbox’s gaming division is ready for “what’s ahead”.
“With that, I have decided that the time is right for me to take my next step personally and professionally,” Bond wrote. “We’re living through a transformative technological era that will shape the next generation of our industry, and I’m excited for what lies ahead. This moment also presents a unique opportunity for fresh eyes and new leadership to guide the team into its next chapter.”
